Queensland University of Technology Fashion Graduates 2009

Aleema Ash

Aleema has created some stunning pieces with her label Thread Lining through her study of gender and new wave craft. She has used beautiful fabrics and traditional techniques to create timeless fashion with amazing detailing.

Key Features of thread Lining are, Hand sewn quilting, a bright and rich colour palette and contemporary silhouettes.


Kasey Brooker

Kasey of Kasey and Col has channeled RAAF uniforms to create clothing that she refers to as “sex on a stick”. She has contrasted the sharpness of the aviation uniform with the concept of air and fluidity by using flowing silks and stiff leather.

Key features of Kasey and Col are, the use of primary colours, luxury fabrications and exquisite craftsmanship.


Lauren Clarke

Lauren has created some very desirable pieces in her A/W 2010 collection with sleek and austere silhouettes. This collection is a delicate application of geometry to soft fabrics; it can be worn in every day life or for dressing up.

Key features of Lauren Clarke are, a rich colour palette inspired by Mark Rothko’s paintings, considered draped silhouettes and a hint of elegance.


Priya Cox

With in PCOX “finding glamour", Priya has focused on rejecting the traditional male silhouette she has adapted iconic masculine pieces as fashion items to show that the aesthetics of gender are constantly evolving.

Key features of PCOX are, a unique colour palette, experimental fabrics and the use of “shoulder boulders”.


Heidi Davidson

Heidi has created her 2010 collection through a narrative starring Chloe Sevigny; this has enabled her collection to be trans-seasonal as Chloe has quite a journey. The clothing has an innocent first impression but reveals itself as quite sexy and cool just like Chloe.

Key features of Heidi Davidson are, digital prints, cute and modern adaptations essential pieces of fashions and some very brave swimwear.


Jeremy Gillis

Jeremy has created clothing for men like himself, the beautiful tailoring combined with a modern street aesthetic that his clothes possess are perfect for the man who takes pride in his image.

Key features of Jeremy Gillis are, ruffle details, a the sleekness of black white and grey but with hints of magenta and great attention to the men’s white shirt.


Aimee Kahl

Amy has created a beautiful lavish collection called “Beast Behavior” it invokes the past with traditional pieces. Experimental is a word that comes to mind when you see the copious amounts of ruffles and the use of black leather.

Key features of Aimee Kahl are, big bows and ruffles, leather corsetry and feather detailing.


Jessica Laird

Jess has used digital printing to develop a very beautiful yet commercial collection. Her imagery of bark and trees is a great representation of nature that is contrasted with her use of technology.

Key features of Jessica Laird are, the use of mainly jersey fabrics, digital prints and innovative silhouettes created with draping.


Alice Leahey

Alice’s collection ”The Dark Side of a Night Mare” is inspired by the magic of childhood dress up box with an eclectic mix of prints and pleating. She has achieved a tribal urban chic aesthetic with hints of the 60’s and 70’s,

Key features of Alice Leahey are, her leather and African print accessories, shoulder detailing and fantastic and considered clash of fabric and colour.

Paris Luo

Paris has created a modern oriental inspired aesthetic; the clothing is and elegant with simple yet effective colours and fabrics.

Key features of Paris Luo are, offshore manufacturing, innovative with a commercial edge, and the use of circles and rectangles in the pattern making process.


Catherine Madden

Velvet Pins is the name of Catherine’s fresh young label. The clothing is reminiscent of all things psychedelic with strong repeat prints and some vivid colours. The silhouettes are inspired by the 60’s and 70’s but have a modern element also.


Key Features of Velvet pins are, custom digital prints, unique colour ways, and the totally wearable pieces that capture the nostalgia of retro but also the comforts of today.


Carla Parr

Carla Parr's collection “Octopus Inc” is a bright mix of prints and colours inspired by the creatures of the deep blue sea. She has used some innovative fabrics to create unique silhouettes.

Key Features of Carla Parr are, an amazing use of blue, purple, Green and pink, digital prints and her 3D pieces.


Marnie Perkins

Marnie’s collection is very cute with hoods that fall back into peter pan collars and scalloping details. She seems to have been inspired by little red ridding hood with her colour palette, wearing the clothes you would feel as though you had stepped out of a children’s book.

Key features of Marnie Perkins are, the use of a Liberty print, luxury fabrics such as velvet and wool and her innovative pattern making.

Kristen Siemon

Kristen has applied her knowledge of pattern making and sewing very well with her 2010 KRS collection inspired by the muscles of the human body. She has combined bright colours with metallic leather to create a feast for the eyes.

Key features of KRS are, luxury fabrics, digital printing and great execution.


Erica Stagg

Erica has created very beautiful clothing from luxury fabrics in her collection “Skeletal Shodows”. Her pieces would be the aspirational purchases that you would treasure for a long time. Her clothing is inspired by loving a garment until it literally falls to bits, which is what customers will be doing with her clothes.

Key features of Erica Stagg are, bias strip detailing, luxury fabrics and colourful prints contrasted with neutral tones.

Robyn Taggart

Robyn is a master of sewing and pattern making this is reflected in her A/W 2010 collection. The clothing is inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, which is actually how she chose her colour palette. She has combined full body knit wear with complex structural pieces.

Key features of Robyn Taggart are, unique colour palette that is custom dyed for the collection, avant- guard pattern making and sewing and her use of wool and leather.


Cassandra Taylor

Cassandra of Cassandra Jane has designed a collection that is not pretty but “ Slum Beautiful”. Her pieces are a very flirtatious and playful contemporary pieces such as the hoodie or the bike short. She has obviously been inspired by pink roses as she has used layers of silk organza through out the collection.

Key features of Cassandra Jane are, cute underwear pieces such as Bras and shorties, digital print and a collection with no black!


Nathalia Viana

Nathalia was the only person from the class of 09 to not make collection; instead she conducted a swimwear report. She focused this study on the Gold Coast, which is according to her the capital for swimwear purchase in Australia. The report is very in depth and is supported with statistics from the Australian tourism department.
